Community Outreach

In addition to running bimonthly clinics, Willow aims to establish relationships with current and future patients, volunteers, and the community in a number of ways. Throughout the year, we hold fundraisers, outreach events, and a Coat Project. We even have a clinic tricycle!!!

Coat Project
Every Winter, Willow holds a coat drive to provide coats, scarves, socks, sack lunches, and hygiene kits to hundreds of homeless individuals battling the winter cold. All items for the event are purchased or received as donations from members of the Davis and Sacramento communities. The event is held at the Salvation Army shelter and is open to homeless residents of the Salvation Army as well as other needy individuals from the community. Usually a few weeks before the event, we'll post flyers around the Salvation Army clinic and spread news of the event by word of mouth.

Annual Bowling Fundraiser
Our Spring auction & fundraiser is one of a few ways Willow raises money to run the clinic while spreading awareness of our patient population. Over the past few years, we have held the event at the M.U. Bowling Alley at UC Davis' main campus. Food, raffle prizes, and a silent auction combine to make this one of the most enjoyable (and beneficial) events of the year. Willow uses most of the funds to purchase medications and supplies for the clinic.

Sponsorship Outreach Events
Willow also participates in a few events each year sponsored by the UC Davis School of Medicine. They include: UC Davis School of Medicine Annual Wine and Auction, Serotonin Surge, etc. Our upcoming events include talks to county officials. These events raise a great deal of funds for the clinic, allow us build relationships with future sponsors, and further expand the network of services we provide.

Homeless / Impoverished Community Events
Willow participates in many Sacramento community outreach events throughout the year. Some events include: POP (People Overcoming Poverty) Health Resource Fair in Sacramento; Homeless Connect Sacramento 2009; more to come later.

Volunteer Outreach
Willow participates in multiple student-run clinic panels throughout the year designed to expose undergraduates to clinical opportunities available at UC Davis. We also have a booth at the Health & Biological Sciences Networking Fair every May as well as an "Info Night" for prospective volunteers every Fall. Interested volunteers should attend an event to learn more about our clinic and patient population.

Clinic Outreach Tricycle
In 2009, Willow was donated an outreach tricycle ment to reach more homeless and impoverished individuals in the area surrounding the Salvation Army in Sacramento. Each clinic day, an undergraduate volunteer signs up to be a tricycle rider. We carry hygiene kits, brochures, and tell potential patients about the services we provide. The tricycle is one of a few new ways we'll bring the clinic out to the community and stress the importance of preventative health care.
